Going Green

green@1x

We are not simply "committed"; we actually use environmentally sound, sustainable materials and practices.

Dunsmuir Cabinets are made in southern California. We employ digital fabrication and use American-made medium-density fiberboard (MDF) composed of 80% pre-consumer recycled material. Our handsome integrated pulls are designed to eliminate the pollution caused by imported melamine, plastics and, most of all, chromium metal handles. This design feature adds convenience and kitchen space while eliminating the cost of hardware and its installation.

Fiberboard is also one of the lowest sources of carbon emissions of all construction materials. It yields far less waste than other building technologies, and that waste is recyclable. More importantly it saves energy and yields no toxic metal pollutants. Our MDF is made with Ecobind resins, which reduce volatile organic compounds (VOCs) to ultra-low standards and protect interior air quality.

For additional LEED credits, we also offer cabinet fronts made with materials containing no urea formaldehyde resins.

We feature only sustainable wood products and veneers that are commercially grown and Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) certified. Our durable painted finishes exceed the stringent Southern California Air Quality (SCAQMD) Rule 1113 (year 2011) for VOC content.
